2. Configure DNS To Make Your Domains Publicly Accessible

You've purchased your domain. Now, when you are ready for your site to "go live" on that domain, you'll add the CNAME and A record entries to your DNS.

Where To Go

To add the correct DNS records for your domain, log into your domain registrar account.

Note: Every DNS provider is different. For detailed instructions on how to add DNS records to your DNS provider, please refer to instructions provided by your domain registrar.

What To Do

1. Log into your domain registrar account. The domain registrar is the service from whom you purchased your domain. (i.e. GoDaddy, Network Solutions, etc.)

2. Locate your domain (this is the domain that you would normally add www to, e.g. http://www.myschool.com) and add the following CNAME record:

Note: You can add multiple CNAME records in this fashion if you have multiple subdomains you'd like to use for one or more sites. For example, if you'd like to use the address http://district.myschool.com for a site, you would add an additional CNAME record as above, but you'd enter "district" (no quotes) as the Host.

3. To allow users to access your site without a www in the URL (e.g. http://myschool.com), you will need to add the CNAME record below:

If your DNS provider doesn't support CNAME records for your root domain (i.e. the domain without the www), you will need to create the DNS A record below instead:

Once these DNS records are added, it may take 24-48 hours to update on the internet (please check with your DNS provider for estimated processing times). You can check whether your DNS settings have propagated by entering your domain name into a web browser. If your DNS records have propagated, you should be directed to your new eChalk site!
