Using Tables to Display Information

Tables are simply rows and columns of information. A table is best used when you have lots of related facts and figures to display so that your audience can quickly understand the information. You may want to create a table that displays contact information, bell schedules, and more. Using the Table Tool in eChalk's Rich Text Editor, you can easily create tables to organize and display your school's information.

Where To Go

 

To create a table in a Text Content Block on your site, you will log in to your site and click on the site tile.  From here go to Manage Web Site > Pages > select a page name > Click Edit or Edit Draft.

What To Do

 

  1. Click Add Content in any Content Block or click on the three dots next to an existing Text Block. If you don't have any Content Blocks available, click Add New Row to add a row of Content Blocks.
  2. Select Text from the menu.
  3. Enter a Title for the Content Block.
  4. Click the grid icon.
  5. Hover your mouse cursor over the number of columns and rows for your table and click to select.
  6. Click inside a cell to enter text, or to add an image by clicking on Insert Images.
  7. To edit table properties like specifying a width, height, cell spacing, cell padding, border thickness, text alignment, background color and border color select the table in the text block, and click on the grid icon to select Table Properties
  8. To edit the properties for an individual cell or a row, highlight the cell or row and click on the grid icon to select Row > Row Properties or Cell > Cell Properties
  9. To edit the properties for an entire row or column such as to designate headers in a column or row, highlight the row or column, and click on the grid icon to select Row > Row Properties or Cell > Properties and next to Row Type or Column Type, select Header. This is helpful when creating tables that are web accessible and able to be read by screen readers and other assistive technology for the handicapped and disabled visitors to your web site. 
  10. Click Save.

 

Note: When specifying a set width and/or height for a table, the responsiveness of your homepage may cut off the table based on the the visitor's screen size.
